Lupita Jones was born María Guadalupe Jones Garay on September 6, 1968 in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. She became the first Mexican woman to win the title of Miss Universe.
Jones won the title in 1991 in Las Vegas Nevada, USA. She was a clear favorite of the judges.
She entered the semi-finals with the highest score. She was the only semi-finalist also who who had an average score of 9.
At the finals, Lupita topped all swimsuit, evening gown and interview portions.
She also scored the highest at Top 6 and Top 3 interview thus making her the winner.
Today, Lupita has a company named Promocertamen. In 1994, she created Nuestra Belleza Mexico, the Official Mexican Pageant responsible for choosing Mexico's representatives to Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International.
In 2000, Jones accepted an appointment as UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador and Face to Face Campaign Spokesperson for Mexico.
Lupita is again single after her marriage with Simon Charaf. They have one son.
